It’s a rough economy out there and the ones that change the way they spend money are the ones who will survive it without any trouble at all.
Here’s what I mean, a one week all inclusive vacations for a couple is going to cost them at the cheapest (for a decent resort) around $2000 total for the both of them. This will include their airfare, hotel, meals, drinks and transfers.
The vacation is only going to last for 7 days. You’ll have to take at least 5 days off in a row if you work Monday to Friday. This will actually give you 9 days away from work counting the weekends. If you stay at home and do things like grab a bed and breakfast, go camping or rent a small motor home you can actually be traveling for the 9 days for much less than $2000.
For the people out there that like camping you’re going to be the ones that save the most money. Perhaps you can think back to your childhood and remember places that you haven’t been to in twenty years. How great would it be to head back there for a few days?
Most campsites out there at the high end of the scale will only cost around $30 per night with electricity for tents. For those of you with trucks, borrow a friend’s canopy if you don’t already have one and throw an air mattress in the back. You have an instant mobile home.
This is the chance for you to go do all the things that are so much fun and you never have time to do. On day one make a bunch of food that you really like and keep the leftovers in the fridge, you’ll be glad you did and it’ll save time later on. Get together with some great friends and make Mojitos, strawberry blender drinks or get that bottle of wine that you’ve been waiting to drink, might as well drink it because you’ll be out winetasting on day four and buying another bottle.
On day two it’s time to head to the local museum, aquarium, local interpretive centre, science centre, or to the movies. By the way, you can do all of those in one day for less than $60. Keeping in mind that an all inclusive vacation is around $140 per day.
On day three call up that friend that owns a boat, dirt bikes, quads, kayaks, skiis, snowboards or whatever else floats your boat and give them $40 to borrow it, hell it might even get you out there for free.
On day four it’s time for some shopping and wine tasting. Do the wine tasting afterwards, you’ll need the energy for shopping in the morning, wine is for the afternoon and if you’re drunk you’ll spend the rest of your budget on shoes/Xboxes/sports equipment/(insert favorite thing here) that you really don’t need.
On day five it’s time for some camping. It’s up to you how many days to go for, call up some friends and see how long they can join you for. Perhaps you can get a few different groups together for each night.
By now I’m sure you’ve come up with a ton of different ideas that will work for what you really love to do. If you’re a scuba diver, call up at least three different people the dive with you and make plans to dive with each of them on a different day, it’s time to scuba your brains out.
